He was...a member of the academies of sciences in Saint Petersburg, Paris, Rome, Bologna, London as well as the member of The Dutch Royal Academy.

He was...a forerunner of Ampere, Faraday, Kelvin, Thomson, Fehner, Mendeleev, Tesla, Milanković, Einstein...

He was born in Dubrovnik in 1711. in a family of eight children. After completing elementary school at the age of fifteen, he was sent to Rome. As a very gifted student at the Collegio Romano, where he demonstrated outstanding knowledge in mathematics, physics, astronomy and philosophy, he was appointed professor of mathematics at the age of 29. In 1758. he completed his capital work “Theory of Natural Philosophy” in Vienna, where it was published in Latin. New editions were published in Venice, Paris and London, but this time - in English. During his stay in England he was elected a fellow of the Royal Society in 1760. His inquisitive mind led him to Constantinople, Bulgaria, Moldavia, Poland, Czech and Austria. For six years he was in charge of the observatory of Brera in Milan. In 1773. he was appointed director of the Department of Optics in the Navy in Paris.

He died in Milan, on 13th February 1787. and was buried in a local church.
