Project Shoebox at Rudjer Boskovic

This holiday season, students at Rudjer Boskovic Osnovna Skola partnered with Refugee Aid Serbia and Rotary Club Ruma to participate in their annual “Project Shoebox”.

This program’s aim is to provide greetings and small gifts to migrant children currently residing at camps around Serbia, as well as disenfranchised Serbian children. After listening to a presentation about Refugee Aid Serbia by representative Lissett Menendez Fermoselle, students were encouraged to pack a shoebox with items such as clothing and/or cold weather apparel, hygiene items (toothbrush, toothpaste, body lotion, etc.) toys, playing cards, school supplies, and of course, candy. Finally, and most importantly, the students were asked to include a short note to the recipient of the shoebox. Some students wrote in Serbian, some in English, some in both languages, and a few even attempted to translate their messages into Urdu (one of the official languages of Pakistan), Dari and Pashto (the official languages of Afghanistan), and Arabic (the official language of Syria)!

This was a wonderful learning opportunity and community service project, and we are proud to announce that Rudjer students donated over 50 shoeboxes to the cause. Thank you for your participation and charity.
