DEMONSTRATION CLASS – GET YOUR BRAIN IN GEAR
On Wednesday, 29th May, first-year students in the advanced mathematics group (MYP4 1AB, Mathematics – Extended) had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the logical game Ripple Effect. The game is played on a square grid of varying dimensions depending on the difficulty level. It involves placing single-digit numbers into fields that belong to zones marked by different colours. With two additional simple rules or conditions that must be met, each of these puzzles always has a unique solution. This solution is achieved solely through reasoning and deduction, without guessing or luck. The solved part, like a ripple, helps the solution „spread“ to the remaining part of the grid, making it easier and easier to solve the rest, hence the name (ripple effect). The students’ enjoyment of the game is evident in the fact that some did not even take a break between classes, and some were seen in the hallway during the day trying to finish the puzzles they had started. It was also agreed that more such puzzles would be introduced in the coming period.
