Ruđer students help animals in need

On Wednesday, October 20, Ruđer Bošković School gave a donation to the Animal Rescue Serbia association (ARS), the first officially registered non-profit organization for volunteer animal rescue in Serbia. On the occasion of the World Animal Day and within the traditional charity event Humanitarianism in Action Ruđer Bošković students raised funds for 140 kilograms of food for animals in need in Serbia. With this donation, our school contributed to the Animal Rescue Serbia campaign “Winter is coming, lets collect 100 tons of food for homeless animals”.

ARS volunteers introduced the students with the MJAU-VAU EKSPERT programme for the education of school-age children. This programme teaches children, through theoretical presentations and workshops, how to approach animals, how to behave when they meet animals (like a pack of homeless dogs) and other useful information.

One of the main aims of the programme is to teach children not only how to interact with animals appropriately, but also to develop a responsible attitude towards the environment. It is designed in partnership with the Recan Foundation – a non-profit organization for recycling beverage cans. Recan Foundation raises awareness about the need for the protection of the environment, especially among young people, and about the need for recycling cans.

A special guest at the programme presentation was Vau expert Badi, a search-and-rescue dog, whose role is to inspire the future generations to care more for animals and the environment.
