Niš
This year, Grade 9 students went on their end-of-primary-school, graduation, trip to Niš. In many ways, this school trip will be remembered as something special. Besides visiting the landmarks in and around Niš, we spent time bonding, laughing, and enjoying theatre performances and movie screenings. We learned a lot about the history and culture of Niš through a guided tour of the city with a local guide and visits to Niš Fortress, Čegar, Skull Tower Monument, Bubanj Memorial Park, Mediana, and many other significant sites.
In addition to the local guide, our history teacher, Dejan Pavlović, was our guide through the city’s history throughout the trip. We did plenty of walking as we hiked to Devil’s Town (Đavolja Varoš), amazed by the natural beauty we witnessed, and we were equally impressed by the Sićevo Gorge, where we stopped for a must-do photo opportunity. We also enjoyed sports activities, and our days were so packed that we didn’t have time to think about how much fun we were having – we only realized it on the last evening, when it dawned on us how quickly time had flown and how we didn’t want to go home. We returned full of impressions, happy, but also a little melancholy, knowing that this group wouldn’t be going on another trip together again.
