CREATIVE SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

Ruđer Bošković School has implemented a programme called “Creative School Activities” (KAŠ) to make the learning process more engaging for students. This experimental approach is based on experience-based learning and aims to shift the focus from grades to spark inquiry in students. The primary goals of KAŠ are to develop critical thinking, expand students’ interests, encourage inquisitiveness and thirst for knowledge, raise awareness of personal responsibility and initiative, support the development of personal identity, master the basic scientific methodology concepts through individual research of social phenomena, and improve competencies for a scientific and unbiased approach to the real world.

“Creative school activities” KAŠ include extracurricular classes, Service As Action in Middle Years Program (MYP) and CAS as a part of the Diploma Programme (DP).

Extracurricular classes for lower primary school grades (“MALI KAŠ”):

“logical thinkers”; science classes; drama classes; art; choir; dance and traditional dance classes; sports; tradition classes; language workshops.

Extracurricular classes for upper primary school grades (“VELIKI KAŠ”):

history classes; arts and crafts; choir and orchestra; sports; model making; journalists; science classes; ecology classes; “logical thinkers”; drama classes;  language workshops; computer programming; chess; dance classes; orienteering; religious education.

SERVICE AS ACTION

This aspect of MYP programme encourages students to apply the knowledge they gained in the classrooms within and beyond the school environment, in the local and global community. In Rudjer Boskovic School we offer a wide range of activities and motivate our students to independently initiate and perform activities that contribute to making the world a better place. Volunteering activities offer help to those in need, promote environmental issues, raise awareness of human rights and develop empathy, independence, and cooperation. Students keep journals for their activities in ManageBack.

CAS – Creativity, Activity, Service is an important element of the Diploma Programme.

CREATIVITY

Creativity represents an imaginative approach to the broad spectrum of the world of art (dancing, theatre, music, painting), including creative thinking in the design process and the ways service projects are being conducted.

ACTIVITY

Activity is taking part in expeditions, individual and team sports, extracurricular physical activities as well as physical activities as a part of the project for Creativity and Service.

SERVICE

This strand is the core of CAS; it is characterized by interaction, building connections with individuals and groups within a community (school, municipality, on a state and international level). These activities do not only mean working for the others but also working together with the others and developing sincere devotion.

As a part of CAS activities these are the actions and events that have been performed in our school for years: drama classes; International days in Rudjer; choir; dance classes; ecology classes; art and design classes; attending UN Model Day; rhetoric; journalism classes; Food and Language Day; Environment Day; Orienteering; Charity called “ Give a book to a village and make it smile”; spending time and cooperating with Day Care “Čukarica”; cooperation, spending time and donating “The Shelter”; teaching and assisting Primary School students.
