European Day of Languages – September 26
By order of the Council of Europe and the European Commission, September
26 was declared the European Day of Languages with the aim of raising awareness of the diversity of languages and promoting the culture of different European countries. The students of our school marked this important date on 28th September. We used the previous week to do appropriate content in all language classes (quiz, movies, music …) The final activity took place today in the first grade.
In the first part of the class, students introduced themselves in a second or third foreign language in a few sentences. (What is my name and surname? What are my interests? What is my favorite subject in
school?)
Next, they took out the name of a present person from the hat (teacher or classmate) and described him / her in a few sentences in English (Who is that person? What makes him / her specific? What does he / she look
like?) The others guessed who that was.
“Thank you” is a wonderful word that we should use more often. At the end of the class, we tried to say thank you in thirty different languages from the European continent.
