The Museum of Theatrical Arts
On Thursday, 6th February 2025, our high school students visited the Museum of Theatrical Arts for the exhibition Mira Trailović: A New Era of Serbian Theatre. We spent our Serbian language and literature class in this beautiful, serene place, where a pleasant and knowledgeable curator, Aleksandra, gave us a “lecture.” We learned more about the career and life of Mira Trailović. The exhibition traces her beginnings, from a refined, elegant young lady from a well-to-do family to a speaker, translator, radio director, and finally to her theatrical achievements, where she emerged as one of the most successful directors in Yugoslavia. Her greatest contributions were as the founder of two theatres – Atelje 212 and the BITEF Theatre. She was also one of the founders of the international theatre festival BITEF. She established connections with many domestic and foreign artists thanks to the festival. She brought many contemporary plays to Serbia. Audiences of the play Hair, which she directed, said it was better executed than the Broadway version. Many actors shared stories about what she was like as a person, highlighting that she was brimming with ideas and, although sometimes misunderstood by critics, she continued to work harder and with greater determination. A good director is not afraid to tell an actor, “I will push you to your limits” (Mira Trailović).
