The Museum of the Serbian Orthodox Church

On December 3, a group of primary school students visited the Museum of the Serbian Orthodox Church with the aim to see the exhibition entitled Eight Centuries of Art under the Auspices of the Serbian Orthodox Church 1219 – 2019.

The students were able to see the handwritten heritage of the ancient Lavra of the Monastery of the Patriarchate of Peć, Visoki Dečani Monastary, the Krka Monastery etc.

Then, they had the opportunity to see several dozen ancient icons by various icon painters that belong to the Serbian medieval iconography. What made this exhibit special were Serbian early Christian crosses dating from the 7th – 12th centuries that were on display for the first time in the museum. Among them was the cross of Emperor Dušan from the Dečani Monastery, which contained particles of the Holy Cross.

In addition, the students were able to see all the church items that are used during the services.
