The Museum of Nikola Tesla

Nikola Tesla, one of the most significant figures from our region, is also one of the world’s greatest scientists. He was the inventor of numerous creations, such as the Tesla coil, the induction motor, the polyphase system, and many others.

Given his remarkable legacy, it’s no surprise that there is a venue dedicated to him, featuring replicas of his inventions and more – the Nikola Tesla Museum, located in Serbia’s capital, Belgrade.

After numerous school adventures, we embarked on yet another one. On 18th November, a group of selected students from Ruđer Bošković School was invited to visit the museum, accompanied by our physics teacher. On the way there, I felt curious, as I believe my peers did too. I wondered what awaited us – would we see some of his inventions?

Upon arriving at the museum, we were greeted by a guide who led us into a room on the left, where we watched a short film about Tesla’s life. It was fascinating. After the film, we moved to the next room, where Tesla’s inventions were on display. The guides demonstrated some of the inventions, and a few visitors volunteered to show how they worked.

We even tried the so-called “zapper,” which was an unusual experience. Although the electricity made contact with the hand, it caused no sensation. However, just seeing the electric current was slightly unsettling.

Following the invention exhibit, we entered a room filled with Tesla’s personal belongings, such as gloves, jackets, and other items.

The entire experience was enjoyable, albeit a bit short. Still, it was captivating. Just the thought that human hands created everything we saw amazes me.
