Public Aquarium and Tropicarium

While inquiring into transdisciplinary theme Sharing the Planet, grade 2 students visited the Public Aquarium and Tropicarium. For a short while, they were transported to the banks of the Amazon, where they learned about herbivore piranhas that look more dangerous than they actually are. They met Nemo and Dory and found out the actual names of these species of fish. They saw the biggest fish in the Aquarium. They had the opportunity to observe different species of crabs and were able to spot a crab hiding behind a few rocks. The story about tarantulas sent shivers down their spines, while chameleons and non-venomous snakes proved the most interesting animals to learn about. They also learned that some turtles have soft shells, whereas some have very hard shells. Students learned a lot not only about aquatic animals, but also about various species of aquatic plants. Although the students were already familiar with carp, catfish, sterlet and other fish, they had the opportunity to see them up close and expand their knowledge about these animals.

The students also watched a film about a diving adventure of one of the boys during which he made a video about the ocean marine life.
