Prima Facie

On 26 November, our high school students went to the Bitef Theatre to see the play Prima Facie. Written by Suzie Miller and first performed in Australia in 2019, the play follows Tessa, a criminal defence barrister who frequently works on cases involving sexual assault. The production offers a powerful commentary on legal systems worldwide that often ignore the issue of sexual violence.

In the play, an unexpected turn of events forces Tessa to confront the limits of a system in which patriarchal legal power and the burdens of proof and morality collide. The actress portraying Tessa in this monodrama, Maša Dakić, received the well-deserved Miloš Žutić Award for Best Acting Achievement that very evening.
