Celebrating World Mental Health Day in PYP

World Mental Health Day is celebrated worldwide on October 10th. It is a day when we work together to raise awareness about the importance of mental health and how we can improve it.

Students in PYP marked this day with various activities.

Grade 1 students created a joint poster on the theme “What I Love About Myself.”

Grade 2 students watched relevant content and then made their own “good mood” box.

Grade 4 students, as part of their first theme “Who We Are,” had third line of inquiry focused on “Physical and Mental Health Are Equally Important,” during which they completed summative tasks that they presented to Grade 3 students that day. They designed various activities to help their friends develop awareness of their mental health and understand how mental health relates to thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, physical health, healthy eating, participating in sports, and caring for their own and others’ safety at home, school, in traffic, on the street, and online. They created their own games: emotional stickers, an emotional thermometer, a path to health, made puzzles, demonstrated breathing techniques, dance, and exercises that can help improve our state when we feel sad, scared, angry, or worried.

Grade 5 students celebrated this day by watching a relevant video and having a discussion, after which they reflected on how socializing with peers and learning “empties their batteries,” and which activities “recharge their batteries.”

Good mental health is an integral part of our overall health and well-being, and it is important to protect and nurture it!
