At the Museum of Ivo Andrić

It was only fitting that, after analysing Andrić’s short stories, our Grade 9 students visited the Ivo Andrić Museum on 29th October 2025. The museum is, in fact, the flat where he spent the last twenty years of his life. Our Ruđer students learned many fascinating details about Andrić’s life and literary work, and even impressed the curator with their knowledge of our Nobel laureate.

They saw Andrić’s study, numerous personal belongings and photographs, and learned about his distinguished diplomatic career. The students also listened to his Nobel Prize acceptance speech, delivered in French in Stockholm in 1961. All of us, including the curator, had the unique opportunity to hear the Swedish text engraved on the plaque Andrić received at the award ceremony, thanks to our student Kristijan. We also saw two of Andrić’s suits: his diplomatic suit and the one he wore in Stockholm.

This visit enriched our students’ knowledge and experience, and we were especially pleased that it also represented a step forward for visits of this kind – not only did we hear Swedish, but we also heard Kristijan’s translation into Serbian. In that sense, it also added something new to the museum experience.
