At the Đura Daničić Exhibition

On 23rd October 2025, Ruđer linguistics club members visited the National Library and the exhibition Đura Daničić – Linguist, Translator, Librarian, Professor.

Their Serbian language teacher guided them through the exhibition and shared important facts about the National Library, helping them understand the significance of this cultural institution and its hardships during World War II. Đura Daničić served twice as the head of the library and was also a professor at the Great School. He was an important translator and linguist. In the 19th century, Vuk Karadžić led the movement to introduce the vernacular language into literature and culture, and Daničić, as a young supporter, played a key role in helping realise these ideas in 1847. Daničić also published Little Serbian Grammar and translated the Old Testament. As a follower of Vuk, he adopted the surname Daničić after Vuk’s magazine Danica (Morning Star). We are proud that by attending, learning, and showing interest, we were able to support this important cultural event in our city and heritage.
