A Walk Through Dorćol Following the Footsteps of Svetlana Velmar-Janković

On Friday, 9 May 2025, students from our school had the opportunity to take part in a special lesson — a walk through Dorćol inspired by the life and works of the renowned Serbian writer Svetlana Velmar-Janković.

The walk began at Republic Square and continued through several historically important streets: Francuska, Gospodar Jovanova, Dositejeva, Gospodar Jevremova, Zmaj Jovina, Kralja Petra, and Rige od Fere. At each of these locations, we learned something new — about historical figures, notable buildings, and most importantly, how these places connect to the stories and themes found in Svetlana Velmar-Janković’s literature.

During the walk, we heard fascinating stories about people who once lived in these streets, such as Nikola Pašić, Jovan Skerlić, Dositej Obradović, and Stevan Mokranjac. We also visited key landmarks like the National Theatre, the Bajrakli Mosque, the Museum of Vuk and Dositej, and many more.

This walk was a wonderful way to get to know our city better and to connect what we learn at school with real places and historical events.
