Food Day at Our School – Small Steps Towards Healthier Habits
On Friday, 16 October, we celebrated World Food Day at our school in a delicious, creative and inspiring way! Our students showed initiative and care for others by preparing a healthy, tasty and vitamin-rich snack for their classmates and teachers.
This activity gave students the opportunity to show that healthy eating does not have to be complicated or boring, but can be varied, appealing and full of colour and flavour. Preparing and sharing food also provided an opportunity to socialise, work together and develop an awareness of the importance of making responsible choices about our health every day.
The initiative also reflected the values of the IB education. Students demonstrated that they are caring by considering the health and wellbeing of others, communicators through collaboration and joint planning, and open-minded by embracing new ideas and showing a willingness to take initiative. By preparing a snack for the school community, they also showed that learning does not have to remain confined to the classroom – it can translate into practical actions that have a positive impact on everyday life.
We also placed particular emphasis on the importance of responsible food consumption. World Food Day reminds us that food should never be taken for granted and that food waste is an issue we can all help to reduce. Planning meals, taking only as much food as we need, storing food properly and finding ways to use leftovers safely are small but meaningful steps towards a more sustainable lifestyle.
Through activities like this one, students develop an understanding of the connection between healthy habits, personal responsibility and caring for our planet. They learn that their choices, however small they may seem, can contribute to building a healthier, more responsible and more sustainable community.
Food Day at our school was about much more than a healthy snack – it reminded us that by caring for ourselves, others and the world around us, we can make a meaningful difference every day!
