A Workshop on Light
Grade 4 students had the pleasure of welcoming Mariya Kalmykova, mother of our Grade 4B student Eva Kalmykova, who led a wonderfully engaging and educational workshop on light and its properties.
Through carefully designed experiments, students explored how light travels, how shadows are formed, and what happens when light reflects off surfaces or passes through different materials. Particular attention was given to the phenomena of reflection and refraction, which students were able to observe and understand through direct, hands-on experience.
Using light sources of different colours, students discovered how colours combine to create new visual effects, while at the same time developing their skills of observation, questioning, and drawing conclusions. Events like this are a valuable opportunity to connect curriculum content with real-life experience and bring the world of science closer to students in a creative, interactive, and inspiring way.
We would like to thank Mariya Kalmykova for the time, dedication, and enthusiasm she shared with our students. Her workshop enriched the learning process and gave the children the chance to discover the fascinating world of light through inquiry and hands-on exploration.
