Charlie Chaplin – City Lights
On 9th December, high school students had the opportunity to watch Charlie Chaplin – City Lights at the Belgrade Drama Theatre. The performance is based on the 1931 film of the same name and combines live music with physical theatre. There is not a single spoken line, yet the play fully holds the audience’s attention through an engaging story created collaboratively on stage as a tribute to the famous “sad clown”. The role of Charlie Chaplin is performed by Greek actor Prokopis Agathokleous, with Todoris Oikonomou at the piano. The production was previously staged in Athens and has now been brought to the Belgrade stage, enriched with a new local element under the direction of Amalija Benet and Nikita Milivojević. The leading characters are portrayed by Prokopis Agathokleous, Stefan Radonjić, Mina Nenadović, Vesna Čipčić, Vukašin Jovanović, Staša Nikolić, and many others. After the performance, three members of the school journalism club and the theatre enthusiasts’ association shared their positive impressions with the actors and learned more about their profession, with the aim of applying these techniques in future school performances.
