Ancient Greece
School trips are the highlight of the school year for every student, from the first grade of primary school to the fourth year of high school.
Athens, the capital of Greece, is filled with ancient landmarks, famous buildings, rivers, and sites, including Epidaurus, the Acropolis, and Corinth.
On the first day in Athens, we travelled from the airport to our hotel, located in a beautiful part of the city. Glyfada is a small area surrounded by the sea, palm trees, and a promenade along the coast. We strolled through Glyfada and enjoyed some relaxing moments.
The first day was short, as half the day was taken up by our flight, check-in at the airport, and all those tedious things. On the second day, after breakfast, we tiredly boarded the bus and headed to the centre of Athens, specifically Syntagma Square. We walked through the city and set off for the Acropolis, the most famous landmark in Athens, which offers an unreal view of the entire city. We saw the Temple of Athena, the Parthenon, the Erechtheion, the Temple dedicated to Athena and Poseidon, the Temple of Athena Nike, a smaller temple dedicated to Athena, and the Theatre of Dionysus.
After returning from the Acropolis, we had some free time in the centre, and everyone went their own way. After our free time, we returned to the hotel for dinner, although this time we decided to skip a stroll through Glyfada.
The next day, we set off on a long bus ride and saw the Corinth Canal, followed by Corinth itself, the remnants of Ancient Greece. After Corinth, we visited the famous Epidaurus, an ancient theatre near Athens that fascinated me the most with its size, acoustics, and overall appearance. The old town of Nafplio, surrounded by the beautiful sea, is built in an ancient style, which adds to its beauty. In my opinion, it’s a popular tourist destination, but it is beautiful and worth a visit.
After a tiring day, we headed back to the hotel, where most of us immediately fell asleep from exhaustion.
The next day, we explored Plaka, the bohemian district of Athens. I really liked this old part of Athens; it left a remarkable impression on me. We had free time to walk around, socialize, and have dinner.
Tired, we later boarded the bus and, half asleep, headed back to the hotel. Unfortunately, that was the last day. As they say, all good things come to an end, but of course, there will be more school trips, more experiences, more new friendships, and more fun.
