A Visit to the Museum of African Art

As an introduction to the upcoming Visual Arts unit, “The Other Face,”  7a/7b students visited the Museum of African Art, where they learned about the museum’s permanent display, as well as selected items displayed within the tactile exhibition “See, Touch, Feel” by Milica Josimov. The aim of this visit is to recognize the cultural significance and symbolism of African masks, as well as to understand their role in traditional and contemporary society. After touring the collection, students were tasked with exploring details regarding the creation and usage of selected items from the museum’s collection of ritual masks from North and West Africa.
